of obama care, right, and who famously, the citizens of kentucky have reaped the benefit. kentucky now leads the nation in new sign-ups for health insurance, and that would be huge anywhere. it is a particularly huge deal for a state whose population is as unhealthful as kentucky's is. i don't mean any offense by it, but kentucky's population ranks at the bottom or toward the bottom of the nation's health ratings in lots and lots and lots of different categories, and kentucky has a lot of uninsured people. and it's the exact same deal two states over in mississippi, but in these two states, in the same part of the country, with the same health problems in their populations and a lot of the same challenges, one of them, kentucky, is now best in the nation in terms of people getting health insurance, and one of them, mississippi, is now worst in the nation, and not because they wouldn't know how to fix their problem. they knew how to fix their problem, but they stopped fixing it. mississippi has enrolled a smaller percentage of its population than any other state in the nation. they do n

and politics of obama care in general, how is that playing on the ground already? >> it's playing very differently depending on where you are. i'll give you two examples. you probably heard about kentucky where the website is going really well. i know the new york times and "washington post" talked about that a lot. if you go to kentucky, what you hear is that mitch mcconnell is still loud and proud saying we should repeal obama care. and the democratic candidate there running and her name is allison grimes. so far even though kentucky has a good website, she is still very weary of this law. her view is still obama care not going to help you win in kentucky. on the other hand in florida, you have charlie crist, now a democrat, running for governor there. he made one of his big issues the medicate expansion which is popular. florida has not allowed the medicaid expansion. and he thinks it's a winning issue with the democrats in florida. >> the website is working better but still underlying issues only just beginning to make head way like identity verification and enkolment data which is

to get to including the obama care website up and running a lot better than it used to be. first stretches of new york's commuter rail line are closed this morning after a deadly train crash over the weekend. four people were killed. more than 60 injured. 11 in critical condition. early morning metro north commuter train traveling south from poughkeepsie to grand central station derailed in the bronx. 100 people were on the seven cars which came to a violent stop just short of a nearby river. the train was only about 12 miles away from its destination and many were dozing off when the cars tumbled off tracks. tom costello joins us live from the scene. is there any indication about the issue of speed playing a role in the crash? >> reporter: that's the big question this morning, mika, because most of the passengers who were on said this train of traveling at a very high clip and the governor said he thinks speed was a factor and the engineer has told several people he tried to apply the brakes but they didn't work. that's the train behind me. there are four cars there. you can see

has helped wall street while main street has continued to suffer. the obama care bill has helped big pharma and insurance companies. and there hasn't been a lot of focus on closing looploopholes. i think this speech, if it does signal the beginning of a new, sustained focus for him, could be hopefully a turning point because we do need as a country moral leadership like the kind that the president could provide to focus on this problem, and it doesn't have to be a zero-sum game between left and right, democrat and republican. i have written a lot about how republicans have been terrible at even talking about the problem of poverty, but there are some voices out there talking about it. and if the president could kind of launch a national project and provide moral leadership for business, for republicans, for democrats, and bring people together, i think that could be a significant legacy of his presidency. >> yeah, and i'd put it a little differently. there's one study that shows lower income americans have benefitted under this administration than any in the last 30 years, largely be

with the vice president. one issue that came cross with president obama is since the health care roll out is bungled, there is this issue of trust. a new cnn poll when asked if you trust the president, 46% agreed and 53% disagreed. how much of a drag will president obama be on your prospects to reclaim the house and do you want him front and center on stage with candidates in swing districts? >> i don't think he is going to be a drag at all and honestly, we want the focus to focus on the affordable care act and when it works well and works better, our prospects are enhanced and the president's in that is a very strong one. it helps us. you have got two philosophies here. the democratic philosophy that recognizes that the roll out was a disaster. we have to be focussed on getting it right and most americans in the battle ground districts agree. they would rather get it right than repeal it. you have the republican philosophy that is obsessed with ambushing and sabotaging and repealing it. they are talking about going back to the days where a woman with breast cancer is told by her insuranc

not only how obama care will eventually be phased in or whether it will be phased in at all, but what i'm interested in as a market guy is we're talking about 1/6 of the economy. whether you're for it or against it or you believe it's going to work or not going to work, in the end it's 1/6 of the economy, we're the world's leading business channel and it's in our wheelhouse. but one thing that seems to be going on today in it can that is not getting a lot of air time that i find rather fascinating is that the house judiciary committee is holding hearings and they're holding hearings on something rather, i don't know, maybe call it esoteric, maybe call it extreme but let's get to the crux of the matter and i'll get there through an analogy. let's say when we saw at the end of last year that the payroll walked out in january and said basically, listen, i'm going to take a swath of those people whose taxes are going to go up on the payroll tax and i'm going to delay that for a year, would that fly? i don't know that it would fly. we have a constitution and checks and balances. but let's ge

the past several months is looking for effect of obama care. you did get strong growth in that 20 to 49 employee business size. but it's less than you had with smaller businesses and with larger businesses. are you seeing any pick up, statistical evidence of impact of obama care in numbers? >> no. none. i can't see it. in terms of the job creation or for companies that are around that key 50 employee threshold, i don't see anything. of course the employee mandate was delayed. maybe companies aren't going to react. they'll wait until next year this will they start to react. i don't see it in part time employment, hourly earnings. it's very difficult to see. now, it could also be the case going back to counter fact we don't know what the world would look like if obama care wasn't implemented. that's a tough argument to make. i just don't see it in the data. >> thanks for joining us this morning and bringing decent numbers along. >> yeah. i'm glad to do it. >> becky, back to you. >> all right. thank you. we'll see you back here soon. well done by steve and mark. >> generated above 200. >>

a clean bill of health for obama care. deputy senior adviser from the white house joins me from the north lawn. david, thank you very much. you set a fairly low bar, this vague working for majority that want to sign on and 50,000 could be served at one time, 800,000 in a day. is that good enough? what's the next step? >> so andrea, as you know, this is going to be a process of continuous improvement. compared to where we were in early october as jeff said yesterday it is night and day to the point we can handle a certain number of concurrent users. we're monitoring to make sure the system is stable, the response times are good, the error rates are continuously going down. we've set up a queueing system for those instances where there's overwhelming volume on the system to better manage the flow. we've set up anonymous shopping right on the home page of healthcare.gov so people can look at plans in a much more comprehensive way. based on what we learn, we continue to make these improvements. so by the time we get to the end of open enrollment march 31st, as many people who want to sign up
